The Gift of Graphic Design

As the countdown to Christmas is well underway, we have been thinking about the gift of graphic design. And with Christmas on our minds, we couldn’t help but notice similarities between what we do all year round and what people spend a lot of time doing at this stage of the year, wrapping gifts. Both graphic design and gift wrapping are all about visually presenting the content (gift) in the best possible way. Often the emphasis is strongly placed on the physical gift (content) itself and not the wrapping. Yet we know that the way it is presented can add to the experience of receiving a present.

Gifts come in all shapes and sizes as do design projects, no two are ever the same. As many of us have learned by trial and error, the approach you take to wrapping say a bottle of wine is vastly different to wrapping a simple box. The same goes in our creative studio, every job is personalised to the client and their desired end goal. When it comes down to it, both gift wrapping and graphic design are strengthened by their content, if not impossible without it.

The gift is key

It can be a challenging task trying to wrap a gift, let alone trying to wrap air, in these cases content is key. Receiving a gift that hasn’t been wrapped can at best be underwhelming and take away from the excitement of the unknown. A gift and its wrapping are complimentary of one another, much like a well thought out idea/business is enhanced with good design, be it a logo, branding or a full advertising campaign. Content is the driving force behind each design and we often find it strongly influences the outcome. Graphic design in its most basic form is translating the content into something visual.

With wrapping gifts, it is all about the technique and approach. It can also take serious concentration and skill for the perfect result. There are countless techniques and approaches to wrapping a gift. The same goes with clients, as we firmly believe what works for one will not work for all.

Though we may not be gift wrapping professionals we know what we are doing when it comes to graphic design, check us out here. So, if you’re ready to present yourself in a new and exciting way get in touch with us here!
