Attracting the right staff – More than creating a job description.

Employers are looking for quality staff, and quality staff are looking for quality employers. Are you putting your best foot forward when creating job advertisements?

Often when advertising a job, time is of the essence. You need the right person to fill the role ASAP so you can carry on running like a well-oiled machine. You don’t have time to wait for the right person to find you – so reach out to them first!

Here are some things to think about when you put up your next job advertisement.

Do you have the right strategy to attract the right staff?

Often solving your communication strategy will help solve the issue of finding the right person. It could be partly related to your branding and how it is viewed or executed. Your ad may be well written, but when they check out your website (which they will!), what will they be presented with? Make sure the ad’s tone matches the tone on your website and your company values. The issue with your strategy could also be in the way you present yourself, not only in the advert – but the content on your website and socials. Your marketing collateral needs to reflect who you are, your company values, your ‘why’, your brand story, and be bound together in a visual package.

Is your ad well written?

Top talent wants to work for a company that values them and puts effort into communication. Have you got spelling mistakes or sentences that don’t make sense? Also, think about whether you’re actually telling them what the role is.

Are you advertising in the right places?

Depending on where you’re advertising, you’ll be attracting different kinds of people. For example, advertising on LinkedIn vs on Facebook will give you entirely different applicants. However, both have their place depending on the type of role you are looking to fill.

Last, of all, be open!

Have you thought about non-traditional candidates? Think outside the box when combing through job applications. The best source of fresh ideas and energy for the role can come from someone who has had different experiences or has a background of thinking in an entirely new way. Your dream employee may be someone who has never worked in the industry – like a barista as your office manager!
